HelperHour isn't a staffing agency and doesn't hire cleaners. It's a free profile that lets homeowners near you find you, see your price and contact you directly.
Working for a cleaning company vs. working for yourself
At a cleaning company
- The company sets your pay and your schedule.
- The clients belong to the company.
- The company keeps part of what each client pays.
On your own with HelperHour
- You set your hourly rate. New profiles default to $25 an hour with a 2-hour minimum visit, and you can change your rate anytime.
- You choose your days, your hours and how far you travel.
- Clients are yours and pay you directly. HelperHour never takes a cut.
Part-time, weekends or full-time
You decide when you work. Set the days and hours you're open each week, and change them whenever you like. Some cleaners fill a few weekend slots; others build a full week of regular clients.
How to start
- Sign in with your email and add your hourly rate, the areas you cover, your weekly hours and a profile photo.
- Confirm you run your own business and clean every home yourself.
- We review every profile before it goes live. No agencies, franchises or staffing companies.
- Homeowners call, text or send you a request. You decide which jobs to take.
How much to charge for house cleaning
As an independent cleaner, your rate has to cover what an employer would normally pay for: your supplies, your travel time between homes, and your own taxes. So price above what you'd earn as an employee.
- Charge by the hour. Homeowners on HelperHour see your hourly rate and an instant total for the hours they pick, so there's less back-and-forth about the price.
- Quote bigger jobs by the hours they take. A deep clean or move-out clean takes longer than a regular visit, so estimate the hours and the price follows.
- Keep a minimum visit. Every HelperHour visit is at least 2 hours, so a short job is still worth the drive.
- Check your local market. Look at what other cleaners near you list, then change your rate whenever you like.
What it costs
Signing up and your profile are free, and so is your first match (the first request you accept). After that, HelperHour Pro is $10 a month to keep receiving new requests. There are no lead fees and no commission, ever.
Homeowners never pay HelperHour anything.
How to start a house cleaning business
- Decide what you'll offer. Regular cleaning, deep cleaning, move-in and move-out cleaning, or all of them.
- Set your rate and your hours. Pick an hourly rate that covers your supplies, travel and taxes, and the days you want to work.
- Check the local rules. Ask your city, county or state whether you need a business license, and consider liability insurance before your first job.
- Get your supplies together. Many independent cleaners bring their own, so say in your profile whether you do.
- Make it easy to find you. Create a free HelperHour profile, then share the link on Nextdoor, Facebook groups and your business cards.
- Ask happy clients for a review. Reviews from homeowners who booked through HelperHour show on your profile and help the next client choose you.
